Stephanye T. Loftin |
Welcome to the web site of Stephanye T. Loftin,
English educator at Charles Herbert Flowers High School for the 2015-2016
school year. I hope students, parents, and colleagues find the
information in this website beneficial and helpful. I have chosen the Adinkra
symbol HWEHWEMUDUA (pronounced scheweb-scheweb-meu-doo-ah) to represent my approach to
teaching. It is a symbol of excellence, superior quality, knowledge, and
critical examination. I want to instill these values in my students as
their understanding of English develops. I would like my students to
relate the philosophy of excelling throughout their lives. The symbol
also is indicative of an individual's doing the best that he or she can -- at
all times. This conceptualizes my expectation -- that my students do
their best in English and in life. Our motto must become, "Be all you
can be!" I also believe in using diverse approaches
within our Prince George's County Public Schools Standards for Excellence and
curriculum for and our Standards for Excellence for the state of Maryland.
This website is one tool that my students can use to excel in English.
Students will actively engage themselves in becoming skilled readers,
writers, speakers, and thinkers for a variety of purposes. I ask
students to read literary works from a variety of cultures, eras, and
rhetorical contexts. Responding in order to understand, explain, and
evaluate a literary work is emphasized. My students will
be able to respond to literature by writing, in discussion, and via
presentation. Grammar study will include information needed for
effective writing and speaking communication. Students will be asked to
write in narrative, expository, persuasive, reflective, and exploratory forms
with emphasis on analysis. Gorman Brown, our principal, has envisioned
and laid out the blueprint of Charles Herbert Flowers High School as a Mecca
of Excellence. As our architect, he has designed our standard.
Join him and me in preparing your children -- our children -- for this
" ideal" destination... in English and in
life. If you are interested in accessing additional

for visiting my site and have an educational year! |
